
Why now for a book about Hiroshima, you may be asking. Why does something that happened so long ago matter in light of the multiple crises washing over us this year?
The answer is that it matters so that our children are free of the shadow of instant destruction that has hung over all of us for 75 years. Health matters; climate change matters; Black lives matter.
But as long as one person alone with a finger on the button can trigger the end of humanity, no other victory will be secure.
